1% for the Planet is a global movement of companies choosing to donate one per cent of their annual sales turnover to environmental organisations. Cornwall Wildlife Trust is registered to this scheme and welcome businesses who would like to know more to get in touch.

1% for the Planet encourages businesses to recognise that industry and the environment are inherently connected and currently has 1,200 businesses and thousands of environmental organisations registered to the scheme. Businesses are able to choose which organisations they would like to donate to and in return will see not only their self worth rise, but their net worth climb as well.

Frugi logoCornwall Wildlife Trust has a very successful relationship with local children's organic clothing company Frugi. It started back in 2006 when Frugi selected the Trust to receive a share of their annual sales turnover through the 1% For The Planet scheme. We haven't looked back since. Lucy and Kurt Jewson, founders of Frugi, are both trained marine biologists particularly interested scientific research.

Frugi 'Little Clothes, BIG Change' The business has recently launched a new project 'Little Clothes, BIG Change' where customers can choose one of three charities including the Trust to benefit from the 1% donation, www.welovefrugi.com/customer/frugi/adults/giving_back. Just select Cornwall Wildlife Trust at the checkout if you are a Frugi customer.

Frugi’s donations to Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Living Seas programme are used in a number of ways to fund both one off projects and ongoing work to help conserve our marine wildlife, including:

•The Marine Strandings Network – training new and existing volunteers on how to record vital evidence from animals which strand on our beaches.
•Setting up sightings watches from the cliff tops to log and learn more about what animals are seen around our shores, their distribution and behaviour.
•Running Seasearch dive surveys to map areas of the seabed and see what really lives beneath the waves.
•Using the data we collect to campaign and lobby for better marine protection – we have to be the sea’s voice and make sure it’s properly looked after.
•Running marine events like snorkel safaris and rockpool rambles to promote the brilliant marine life we have on our doorsteps and how people can do their own small bit to help look after it.

“We support Cornwall Wildlife Trust as the cutting edge research work that they do is amazing. We want to help the Trust raise as much money as possible to protect Cornwall’s marine wildlife and would encourage other businesses to do the same and donate today.” Lucy and Kurt Jewson, co-founders for Frugi organic children’s clothing.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust is very grateful to Frugi for their regular donations, and encourage any businesses who would like to get involved to please get touch with Antonia, contact details below.
