Trust wins £12,000 for solar energy

Cornwall Wildlife Trust is delighted to have been announced regional winners in the M&S Energy Fund and will receive £12,000 to install solar panels at their offices near Truro.

The solar panels will reduce the Trust’s carbon footprint as well as increasing renewable energy generation in their neighbourhood. It will also result in savings to their overall energy costs and therefore maximise funds for the charity’s vital nature conservation work throughout Cornwall.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust has considered renewable energy many times over the years. However, being an Environmental Charity, funds were always focussed on conservation work with every possible measure made to operate sustainably. Having recently reviewed their environmental plan, the Trust decided to go for the big goal of renewable energy across their offices. Winning the M&S Energy Fund for solar panels is a great way to start this project.

Chery Marriott, Head of Conservation at Cornwall Wildlife Trust says,

“Receiving this grant is great for Cornwall Wildlife Trust, the reduced running costs will make a real difference enabling us to spend more on our important work protecting Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places.”

Dee Reeves, Trustee at Cornwall Wildlife Trust says,

“Our vision is to tread lightly on the planet while protecting Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places. Winning the M&S Energy Community Fund is an important kick-start and we are all delighted. The interest this competition has generated has encouraged our staff, volunteers, supporters and the local community to get behind the renewables message. We are so grateful to all who voted for us. Well done to the other projects in our region and beyond. The combined energy and effort everyone has put in has been inspiring.

It is thanks to the M&S Energy Fund that we can now start this work.”
