About the event

As part of Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Your Shore Network, we are supporting the local community in St Austell Bay with a special conservation project, all about protecting the amazing seagrass in the bay.

A huge aspect of this project is to develop a team of local volunteers who can monitor the seagrass in the bay for years to come through special snorkel surveys.

This training course will teach you all about seagrass and why it is important for the health of our marine environment. You will also learn survey techniques to assess extent and condition of seagrass.

The course consists of a morning in the classroom at a venue in the St Austell Bay area (to be confirmed) followed by an afternoon of snorkelling to practice what you have learnt (depending on weather conditions).

Cost - this course is FREE* to attend but priority will be given to those who live and work in the St Austell Bay area.

*We do ask for a £10 deposit upon booking which will be refunded after attending the course.

ESSENTIAL! - To take part in this course, you must have attended our Seasearch Snorkel Observer course

To take part in this course you will need to bring your own equipment.

To snorkel with us you will need to meet the following requirements:

You must;

  • Be aged 18 or over

  • You must have your own snorkelling kit - warm full length wetsuit (should be at least 5mm thick), fins, mask, hood, weights (optional) etc.
