Arundell Garden at West Pentire, Crantock, opens on Sunday 24th June from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Admission to the garden is £5 per adult, with under 16s free. Pasties, cream teas, and beverages will be provided by Crantocks Bakery, Roddas and Cornish Coffee. There will be a plant stall. Dogs on leads are allowed.

This a garden where really no garden should be, but it is, and what an amazing location for one. Situated on a headland between two fantastic beaches it is one acre set around an original farm cottage. In front of the house is a cottage garden while to the side is a small Mediterranean garden, both of which enjoy stunning sea views.

Behind the house there is a rockery and shrubbery. More cottage garden leads to a pond and stream; there are herbaceous borders, a stumpery and fernery, gravel garden, a Beth Chatto dry garden, a small pinetum area and a spectacular exotic garden.

Stumpery gardens date from Victorian times and are similar to rockeries, but use dead wood in place of rocks. This makes an ideal habitat for ferns. Beth Chatto is an author and plantswoman whose ideas for problem area gardening have been followed worldwide. Arundell offers an excellent opportunity to see both these features.

Apart from the television appearance, the garden has also featured in Cornwall Life, Cornwall Today, and ‘Coast’ magazine and is a previous winner in the Newquay in Bloom contest.

“Arundell has truly deserved its appearance on television and in the county’s magazines. Fern enthusiasts will find this garden really interesting. But we are sure everyone will enjoy visiting it, the views are amazing, and we are delighted that the owners have opened for the Trust.”

This is the eighth year running that the Trust has held their highly successful Open Gardens scheme.
