Pedn Billy opens in spring with all that means to Cornwall, and this has been a brilliant year for primroses, and although they and the daffodils may be coming to an end, there are still the bluebells, camellias, and other treats to enjoy flowering well before the rest of the country.

And this year all the gardens opening for the Trust will have plant stalls so visitors can take away a little bit of what they see!

The garden in Bar Road, Helford Passage, will be open on Sunday April 28 from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. Admission is £5 per adult, with under 16s free. Refreshments will be taken on the terrace, and cream teas and beverages will be provided by Roddas, Berryman’s and Cornish Coffee. Dogs are allowed on leads.

This is one of the county’s most beautiful and unique gardens, with wild flower areas, beautiful specimen trees, and terraced borders. Half of the twelve acres are ancient woodlands with paths that wind down to Port Navas Creek and the Helford River to a private beach, which is one of its main attractions.

With a common theme of providing a home for Cornish wildlife the gardens opening this year are varied in content and size, but all provide inspirational ideas. It’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, browsing through some of the most beautiful gardens in Cornwall and at the same time know you are helping the county’s wildlife. Last year a record £21,000 was raised through the Open Gardens event for the Trust’s conservation work.

To reach Pedn Billy, Bar Road, Helford Passage, Cornwall, TR11 5LF from the A39 Falmouth or A394 Helston roads head towards Mabe and Burnthouse and then on through Mawnan Smith and past Glendurgan and Trebah Garden. 0.1 miles from the Trebah entrance on the left the road goes round to the right to Port Navas and Constantine. Do not continue to the right. Go straightish off the main road towards the Ferry Boat Inn. Take the first road to the right, Bar Road, before you go down the steep hill to The Ferry Boat. At the end of Bar Road you will see Pedn Billy.
