Rory runs the London Marathon for our Helman Tor nature reserve

Dressed as a beaver, Rory raised a staggering £1,466 for our Helman Tor nature reserve!

We are so thrilled that one of our supporters, Rory, chose to support Cornwall Wildlife Trust for her first marathon.

She did incredibly well, zooming 26 miles around London dressed as a beaver and raising (almost) £1,500 for our Helman Tor nature reserve.

With a background in Environmental Science, Rory has always been passionate about environmental issues and concerned by human impact on our world. As a result, she decided to support our work on our Helman Tor nature reserve.

“I chose this because we need wild spaces. These are the places we go with those we love. Nature can’t tell us their stories. Come on and speak up for nature!”

As well as raising vital funds to help nature thrive in Cornwall, Rory has also been collecting rubbish while out on her training runs and has made the Facebook group ‘Rubbish Runners’ to create a community of runners, walkers and dog walkers that pick up the odd bit of litter to make their local places special again.

As a result of hitting her original fundraising target, Rory completed the marathon wearing a beaver hat and tail, recognizing that beaver introduction could be extremely beneficial at Helman Tor reserve. It must have been great to see this keystone species on the streets of London, and probably made it easier for her supporters to see Rory coming!

Two days after the marathon, Rory has raised an incredible £1,466 for the Helman Tor reserve!
