The survey includes settling into a sea-watching session, scanning the water for wildlife sightings. There’s time for breaks, and attendees are encouraged to bring a hot drink in a flask, snacks, and binoculars if available. Please wear or bring warm, waterproof clothing, and sturdy footwear, as the event takes place on exposed cliffs, where weather conditions can be unpredictable. Safety is a top priority, so be prepared for uneven terrain and cold winds. Everyone is welcome, making it a perfect activity for families, individuals, and nature lovers alike.
Public Transport: To reach Steeple Point at Duckpool using public transport, take Go Cornwall Bus service 217, which stops in Stibb and Coombe, and may offer a request stop near Duckpool. From the bus stop in Coombe, it's a 10-minute walk to the Duckpool National Trust car park. From there, follow the South West Coast Path for 10 minutes to Steeple Point. The walk includes some steep slopes and provides stunning views of North Cornwall's coastline. Be sure to check bus timetables in advance, as services may have limited frequency, especially on weekends and holidays.
Parking Information: Please park at Duckpool National Trust car park. This site has an open-air car park with a tarmac, compacted gravel, and cobbled surface, and the vehicle route from the main road to the car park includes potholes. Parking is free for National Trust members, but charges apply for all other visitors, with clearly presented payment signs and maps and information boards available. There are no Blue Badge parking bays, parent and child parking bays, or a designated drop-off point, and obstacles from the car park include uneven surfaces and a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park.
