Time: 11am – 1pm

The survey includes settling into a sea-watching session, scanning the water for wildlife sightings. There’s time for breaks, and attendees are encouraged to bring a hot drink in a flask, snacks, and binoculars if available. Please wear or bring warm, waterproof clothing, and sturdy footwear, as the event takes place on exposed cliffs, where weather conditions can be unpredictable. Safety is a top priority, so be prepared for uneven terrain and cold winds. Everyone is welcome, making it a perfect activity for families, individuals, and nature lovers alike.

Public Transport: To reach Steeple Point at Duckpool using public transport, take Go Cornwall Bus service 217, which stops in Stibb and Coombe, and may offer a request stop near Duckpool. From the bus stop in Coombe, it's a 10-minute walk to the Duckpool National Trust car park. From there, follow the South West Coast Path for 10 minutes to Steeple Point. The walk includes some steep slopes and provides stunning views of North Cornwall's coastline. Be sure to check bus timetables in advance, as services may have limited frequency, especially on weekends and holidays.

Parking Information: Please park at Duckpool National Trust car park. This site has an open-air car park with a tarmac, compacted gravel, and cobbled surface, and the vehicle route from the main road to the car park includes potholes. Parking is free for National Trust members, but charges apply for all other visitors, with clearly presented payment signs and maps and information boards available. There are no Blue Badge parking bays, parent and child parking bays, or a designated drop-off point, and obstacles from the car park include uneven surfaces and a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park.

Parking: this site has an open-air car park with a tarmac, compacted gravel, and cobbled surface, and the vehicle route from the main road to the car park includes potholes. It is approx. 10 minutes up the cliff and along the coast path to reach the survey site.

Outdoor Space: The outdoor facilities available include open countryside and coastal walks, with surfaces such as grass, gravel, and loose stones. Footpaths are present in some areas, but the majority of the paths are not wide enough for wheelchair users, and there is no step-free level access. Steep ramps, slopes without handrails, and more than three steps without handrails are present throughout the area, including steps to cross a bridge. There are no bench seats along the paths, and gates and kissing gates may create obstacles for some users.

Facilities: There are no toilets at the survey site, the closest facilities are in the car park. Hedgerow Coffee & Cake (not National Trust) offered hot and cold drinks and sweet treats throughout 2024, check before you attend for updated info.

Accessible Toilets: The adapted toilet, located at the beginning of the parking area, has step-free access and a 78cm wide manual door with high colour contrast. It requires a RADAR key to unlock. The cubicle measures 173cm x 162cm, with a turning space of 150cm x 150cm, but the lateral transfer space to the left of the seat is obstructed. Grab rails are provided, with a dropdown rail on the transfer side, and the toilet seat height is 49cm. Fixtures such as the toilet roll holder and wash basin are accessible from the seat, but the toilet roll holder is not. There is no emergency alarm or shelf, and the cubicle includes a nappy/incontinence bin. The floor and other features have high colour contrast, and lighting levels vary.

Standard Toilets: Access into the toilet is via a single unmarked step, with a manual door that is permanently held open and has medium colour contrast with the surrounding walls. The door opening is 80cm wide, and the widest cubicle door opening is 62cm. Both male and female standard toilets feature a lever mixer tap at the wash basin. Lighting levels are varied, and there are no hand dryers available. *Please note the Toilets are open April – October

Additional Tips: Wear weather-appropriate clothing, bring snacks if needed, and check local weather before starting. The coastal path can be windy and slippery.
