About the event

Come join us at Gunwen Methodist Church on Thu Jun 05 2025 at 10:00 AM for an exciting event where we will learn about the wildlife rich hedges of Helman Tor and just why cornish hedgerows are so valuable. The event will start with a talk by a member of our reserves team, diving into the importance of these hedges and the wildlife that rely on them followed by an optional guided walk to explore them up close.

Whether you're a nature enthusiast or just curious to learn something new, this event is perfect for anyone interested in learning more about nature reserves. This is an opportunity to explore Helman Tor and connect with nature and like-minded individuals.

If you would like to attend for the day but do not have access to transport then please get in touch with kathryn.mackiewicz@cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk as there may be transport available.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Important Information:

The Helman Tor reserve can be very wet and muddy so wellies are always strongly recommended. The terrain is uneven, muddy, steep with a significant level of slip hazards. Although the walk will be taken at a slow pace, participants will need to be comfortable both standing and walking on this terrain for extended periods of time. There is the option to book a talk only ticket for those who would prefer. Please note that there is a small step into the Chapel.

What to expect from the day:

Please join us at 10am at Gunwen Chapel where refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own mug. This will allow time to get settled.

There will then be an informative talk on hedgrows from a member of Cornwall Wildlife Trust's reserve team. This will last about an hour.

After the talk, if you have a walk ticket, we will head out onto the reserve to take a close look at the hedges we have learnt about. This walk will last for approximately one hour and finish back at Gunwen Chapel.

Toilets are available at Gunwen Chapel throughout the talk and at the start and end of the walk. Although there is an accessible toilet on the grounds, there is a small step to access the grounds.
