Love Your Beach Week

Love Your Beach Week

Holywell Bay Love Your Beach Day by Chris Betty

Join together and show your love for Cornish beaches

Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Cornwall College’s Your Shore Beach Rangers Project will once again show the love to our coastal environment with a series of beach cleans across Cornwall, aptly starting on Friday 14th February, Valentine’s Day. Being led by the Your Shore Network and beyond, Love Your Beach has evolved from one day to a full week of beach cleans, giving everyone an even bigger opportunity to get involved

Jenn Sandiford, Youth Engagement Officer at Cornwall Wildlife Trust says,

“After the success of previous years we thought, let’s make this bigger and better than before, kicking the week off on Valentine’s Day and running over February half term, we wanted as many local community groups to get involved running their own beach clean and there is currently a whopping 12 cleans taking place over the week!”

Groups all over Cornwall are taking part; from Polzeath to Looe, Falmouth to Perranporth, teaming up with Beach Guardian, Cornish Seal Sanctuary, National Lobster Hatchery, RSPB and Plastic Free Communities across the county. Full listings can be found on the Beach Rangers website and Facebook. Everybody is welcome to take part in Cornwall’s Love Your Beach Day.

Jenn Sandiford continues,

“In this time of climate change and ecological crisis, eco-anxiety is on the rise.  It is so important that people have the opportunity to make a difference and taking part in a beach clean is one way to do it. It can be easy to feel disheartened but being part of something bigger reminds us, we’re not in it alone.  We are so lucky in Cornwall to have such wonderful groups who regularly clean our Cornish coastline. It’s great to team up and shout out about the impact we can have if we all work together”

No beach clean is too big or small, there is still time to sign up and get involved by putting on your own clean, just don’t forget to draw or make a heart, take a picture and get it on social media using the following hashtags; #loveyourbeach #loveyourbeachfrom‘nameofbeach’ i.e. #loveyourbeachfromcaerhays #yourshorenetwork.  The more we use the hashtags the bigger it will be! Or go along to an organised beach clean in your area.
